Softball Heads to Alabama For Tuesday Contest

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB softball team puts its three-game winning streak on the line when it faces No. 2 Alabama Tuesday night.

The game gets underway at 6:30 p.m. at the Alabama Softball Complex in Tuscaloosa. Live stats will be made available through Alabama's athletic Web site.

The Blazers are 17-18 overall and 4-5 in Conference USA play after sweeping Memphis in a three-game series last weekend. The Crimson Tide are 27-3 overall and 9-2 in the Southeastern Conference. This will be the second time this season the clubs have meet. Alabama hit three home runs to defeated UAB 10-1 on March 8 at George Ward Park.

Both teams come into the game with hot bats. The Blazers scored 19 runs in the series with the Tigers, the second largest total in a three-game series in program history. UAB banged out 26 hits over the three game and collected a season-high 12 hits in their 9-1 victory. UAB also scored eight runs in the third inning of that game. In their 6-4 win the Blazers walked nine times, with Holly Krzan leading the way with four base on balls.

Laura Callaway led the Blazers attack hitting .500 over the weekend. She scored three times and drove in two runs. Cameron Skates went 3-for-6 at the plate and collected a team-high 4 RBI in the process. Holly Krzan scored four times for UAB and walked five consecutive times to begin the series, which set a school record.

Jennifer Nelson is projected to get the start for the Blazers. She went 3.0 innings in the first meeting between the two schools.

Alabama also had a record setting weekend against Kentucky scoring 34 runs in three games and hitting 12 home runs.

 

 

In the last meeting, UAB jumped on top to 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning. Alabama stormed back however hitting three home runs that contributed to 10 runs.

Tuesday evening's game will be the fifth time the squads have matched up. Alabama holds a 4-0 edge in the all-time series.
