Alabama State beats Florida A & M 11-10
March 25, 2008
Tallahassee, Fl. - Alabama State's bats heated up Tuesday afternoon as the Hornets hammered their way to an 11-10 victory at Florida A & M. ASU got it going early as they bolted out to a 9-0 lead after six innings. Derrion Pedro started the game by striking out, but got on base when the catcher misplayed the third strike. Chris Davis stroked a single, moving Pedro to third. T.J. Griggs' ground out scored Pedro, and James Jordan's infield single knocked in Davis. ASU led 2-0 after the first inning. Breon Landers manufactured a run in the second inning when he singled, stole a base, moved to third on Pedro's hit and then stole home. T. J. Griggs kept it going when his single drove in two runs. Zeb Hilburn scored on a wild pitch in the fifth. James Jordan banged in two and Furquan Shamsud-Din drove him one in the sixth. Florida A & M inched into the game in the 7th inning with two, and made the contest interesting when they scored three more in the eighth. In the bottom of the night, an easy victory turned tight when the Rattlers started a rally with two out. Eight batters, two hits, two errors and one walk later, Florida A & M's five runs made the game 11-10 with men on first and second base. ASU's Devin Dominguez induced a harmless fly out to right field and the Hornets had the win. Marquise Hogue (2-1) picked up the win, while FAMU's Artist Patton (0-1) took the loss.
T. J. Griggs and James Jordan each drove in three runs for the Hornets. ASU hosts Fisk University this Thursday afternoon at Paterson Field. First pitch is 1 p.m. and admission is free. |
