WASHINGTON - Junior guard Garrison Carr has been selected the Patriot League Anaconda Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, league officials announced Monday.
Carr, who earns the award for the third time this season, led the Eagles to a 2-0 week with wins over Bucknell and Colgate, helping American build a 1 ½ game lead in the PL standings. The Bellevue, Wash., native scored 24 points in each of the two games, while shooting 46.7 percent (14-of-30) from the field and 47.8 percent (11-of-23) from outside the arc. With his 11 threes during the week, Carr surpassed the Patriot League single-season record for three-pointers (previously 99 by Mark Lueking of Army, set in 1995-96). He now has 109 three-pointers, and is just 16 away from breaking into the NCAA's all-time top-25 for single-season three-pointers.
Meanwhile, Carr also averaged 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game over the week. Carr is averaging 22.3 ppg during league play, while shooting 46.8 percent from the field and 46.8 percent from three-point land. Carr has scored at least 22 points in eight of 11 Patriot League games thus far, and has hit for 22 points or more in every contest during American's five-game winning streak.
Carr and the Eagles host Army on Wednesday in a 7:30 p.m. tip, with a chance to clinch at least a share of the Patriot League regular season title. The Eagles need a win and a Navy loss to Holy Cross to do that. Meanwhile, AU can clinch at least a first-round home game in the Patriot League Tournament with a win over the Black Knights.
