Facts and Figures about ASU's Athletic Department
Feb. 8, 2008
- Only THREE of the 140 Football football student-athletes who have
entered the program in the past 6 years have been declared academically
ineligible to compete
- ASU football is #3 in the Pac-10 Conference (behind Stanford and Cal)
for number of Pac-10 Conference all-academic team members over the past 6
years.
- In 2006-07, ASU Football was #2 in the Pac-10 Conference for graduation
rate (behind only Stanford) 67%
- 8 Football Student-Athletes played this season as college graduates (5th
in the nation)
- 16 of the 26 seniors in this class have already graduated. Nine of the
remaining 10 will graduate in spring 2008 or summer.
- ASU led the nation in 2007-8 with 19 players who played in a postseason
bowl game who had already earned their college degree.
- The CUM Team GPA for the fall semesters from 2001 to 2006 increased each
year from 2.23 to 2.31 to 2.38 to 2.40 to 2.47 to 2.52
- Academic Progress Rate (APR) The ASU Football APR has increased each
year since the program began in 2003 and is projected to be above 930
- APR ASU has lost NO SCHOLARSHIPS under the academic reform program
ACADEMIC ALL CONFERENCE AND ALL AMERICAN
- For the 2006-2007 academic year, over 138 individuals were named to the
conference All-Academic Team - (125 or approximately 25% of all
student-athletes were honored)
- ASU ranks #2 in the Pac-10 Conference (Stanford #1) and is ranked in the
top 10 in Division I Athletics for highest number of academic All-Americans
over the past 6 years.
- ASU ranks #2 in the Pac-10 Conference (Stanford #1) for most Academic
All-Pac-10 selections for 2006-07 for all sports.
- Sarah Stevens was awarded the 2007 USTFCCCA National Indoor
Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
- Arizona State named 2007 USTFCCCA Women's All-Academic Team of the Year
GRADE POINT AVERAGE
- 63% of all Student Athletes are Maroon and Gold Scholar Athletes
(earning a 3.00 or above GPA in the Fall or Spring Semester)
- 48% of all Student Athletes have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above
- 17 of 22 sports (including every women's team) have cumulative team GPAs
of 3.00 and above. Of those not over 3.00, Wrestling, Men's Basketball and
Baseball have had their highest GPA in at least 5 years and are all over
2.80.
APR - ACADEMIC PROGRESS RATE
- Three Sports - Men's Golf, Women's Tennis and Women's Basketball were
honored for their exceptional APR scores (ASU is 3rd in the Pac-10 for most
sports honored)
GRADUATION RATE / GSR (GRADUATION SUCCESS RATE)
- In 2006-07, ASU Football was #2 in the Pac-10 Conference for graduation
rate (behind only Stanford)
COMMUNITY SERVICE
- 370 ASU Student Athletes (70% of ASU student-athletes) performed almost
1700 hours of community service, engaging over 61,000 youth and adults in
the community
