April 29, 2008 TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State senior student-athletes Ryan Sontag of baseball, Jason Trulson of wrestling, Lindsey Brown of swimming and Jackie Vasquez of softball have been awarded with the 2008 Pac-10 Post Graduate Scholarship. These four student-athletes now become candidates for the Oroweat "Healthy Minds" Scholarship, which is a $10,000 postgraduate scholarship provided to one male and one female student-athlete selected from the pool of 40 Pac-10 Post Graduate Scholarship winners. ASU's Kal Clark was the inaugural male winner of the Healthy Minds Scholarship in 2007. Sontag, a kinesiology major, holds a 3.74 GPA and is graduating in May 2008. The Monroe, Mich., native transferred to ASU after his freshman season at Michigan State, where he was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and earned second-team all-conference honors. As a Sun Devil, Sontag has been named to the Academic All-Pac-10 first team, while also helping the baseball team to a Pac-10 Championship and a spot in the 2007 College World Series. Trulson, of Fountain Hills, Ariz., has a 3.63 GPA in biology and will receive his degree this May. As a senior in 2007-08, he reached the finals of the Pac-10 Championships in his 197 weight class and was one victory short of earning All America honors at the NCAA Championships. In 2007, he was selected to the National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academic team and earned first team Academic All-Pac-10 honors for the second straight season. Brown, a psychology major with a business minor, holds a 3.58 GPA and was named to the Academic All-Pac-10 second team in her final season with the Sun Devils. A native of Sagainaw, Mich., Brown garnered honorable mention All America honors in the 200 and 400 free relay and the 200 medley relay. She is also a member of the ASU record-holding 200 and 400 free relay teams. Vasquez, who hails from Tucson, Ariz., is a special education major with a 3.65 GPA and is expected to graduate in December 2008. She is also a candidate for the Lowe's Senior Class Award, which is given to a senior student-athlete who not only excels in the classroom, but has made an impact in their respective communities. As a junior in 2007, Vasquez was named to the All-Pac-10 honorable mention team and to the academic All-Pac-10 second team. Her grand slam against LSU in the NCAA Super Regionals put the Sun Devils in their second consecutive World Series appearance. She has also been the recipient of the Rosalyn Lyon Scholarship in Education and the Roma Gentry Memorial Scholarship, as well as the CSAC Student-Athlete of the month in November 2007.
