Ali Kielty, Kyle Alcorn Pace Sun Devils at Cardinal Invitational

May 5, 2008

TEMPE, Ariz. - Four members of the Arizona State University track & field program competed at the Cardinal Invitational Sunday night in Palo Alto, Calif., as all four raced in the distance events held on the Stanford campus. All four individuals posted times that will qualify them to compete in the NCAA West Region Championships later this month.

Ali Kielty led the way as she clocked a time of 16:17.04 to finish fifth in the second section of the women's 5,000m run while teammate Jenna Kingma was 15th in the same race in 16:50.81. Kielty's time ranks as the ninth-fastest in school history.

On the men's side, Kyle Alcorn ran his first 3,000m steeplechase of the season, crossing the line in 8:38.52 to place 10th in a very competitive race. The final Sun Devil to compete on the night was Jeff Helmer, who placed 12th in the second section of the 5,000m run in 14:06.44.

The championship season begins next weekend in Tempe as the Sun Devils play host to the start of the 2008 Pac-10 Track & Field Championships presented by 76 Gasoline on May 9-10 with the heptathlon and decathlon. The remaining events of the Championships will be held the following weekend.
