Groundbreaking Ceremony Held For ASU's Indoor Practice Facility

May 15, 2008

The official groundbreaking ceremony for Arizona State University's new Indoor Practice Facility was yesterday in a private ceremony, Sun Devil Vice President for Athletics Lisa Love announced Thursday. The addition of the indoor facility will further enhance ASU's reputation as having outstanding athletic facilities.

"We are very proud of our donors and the fact that they have stepped forward to assist with this meaningful project," says Love. "Their generosity will provide us with a multi-purpose facility for a variety of uses and events."

The air conditioned indoor practice facility, located on ASU land just South of the Bill Kajikawa Football Practice Fields, will include 103,500 square feet of indoor space and be 460 feet long by 225 feet wide and 66 feet high. The facility includes a 75-yard practice field with an end zone and a 45-yard practice field with an end zone. Cost for the facility, including the turf and moving the band field, is $8.4 million. It is scheduled to be completed by August 1, 2008.

The indoor facility will provide the Sun Devil football team a climate-controlled space in which to practice during August and September. The facility also will be used for summer football camps, by the ASU Marching Band, ASU Intramurals and for other athletic department events.

CMX Sports Engineers, 7740 N. 16th Street, Suite 100, Phoenix, Arizona are the civil engineers of the project while Mortenson Construction is the CMAR. The project architect is Gould Evans.
