A-10 SAAC Completes Annual Community Service Project
Feb. 15, 2008 PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Atlantic 10 Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) volunteered its time providing services at the Inglis House in Philadelphia for its annual community service project on Saturday, Feb. 9. Founded in 1877, Inglis House is a skilled nursing care facility for adults with physical disabilities. Services at Inglis House include long-term, rehabilitative medical and nursing care; physical, occupational and speech therapies; and social enrichment programs including computer and education therapy, vocational rehabilitation, therapeutic recreation and religious programs. All Inglis House programs are designed to maximize the independence of people with physical disabilities. Eighteen members of the A-10 SAAC, in town for their annual meeting, spent the afternoon assisting the Recreational Therapy department at Inglis House by helping residents make handmade cards for Valentine's Day. The group also spent time socializing with the residents, sharing stories and even playing the piano. The mission of the Atlantic 10 Conference SAAC is to enhance overall student-athlete welfare while maintaining a strong commitment to community service. Members of the A-10 SAAC strive to be positive examples and leaders throughout their communities, not just on the playing field. For more information about Inglis House, visit www.inglis.org |
