Baseball Player of the Week
Marshall MacDonald - Dayton
Junior, INF/C, 6-0, 215 lbs.
Red Deer, Alberta/Red Deer HS
MacDonald collected eight hits in 18 at-bats with eight runs scored and eight RBI...hit four home runs over five games, including three in Dayton's three-game series versus Saint Joseph's...also added five walks...his two-run blast on Apr. 12 helped the Flyers edge SJU in 11 innings, 5-4...leads UD in homers (five) and slugging percentage (.500).
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Jordan Conley - Xavier
Junior, RHP, 6-1, 180 lbs.
Hamilton, Ohio/Hamilton HS
Conley was a perfect three-for-three in save opportunities as he tossed three innings of scoreless relief...pitched a perfect ninth on Apr. 8 as Xavier downed Ohio, 8-5...also closed out the Musketeers' 5-4 (Apr. 11) and 10-9 (Apr. 13) victories at Charlotte...has 14 strikeouts in 11 innings pitched on the year.
Baseball Rookie of the Week
Pete Mastors - Rhode Island
Freshman, OF, 5-10, 165 lbs.
Narragansett, R.I./Bishop Hendricken HS
Mastors batted .444 (8-for-18) over five contests with three extra-base hits...went 3-for-4 with a run scored on Apr. 11 in Rhode Island's 3-1 win over Saint Louis...laced his second triple of the year in the Rams' 11-7 loss at Connecticut on Apr. 9...has hit safely in six consecutive games.
Softball Player of the Week
Whitney Mollica - Massachusetts
Junior, Third Baseman, Windham, N.H./Salem HS
Mollica posted six hits, including a home run, with six RBI in a 5-0 week for UMass...hit .462 on the week...had the game-winning RBI-single in the bottom of the sixth inning in a 1-0 victory over Saint Joseph's on Apr. 11...went 2-for-3 with a RBI in a 9-0 win over Temple in game one of the double-header on Apr. 13... followed that going 1-for-1 with a three-run home run in a 10-0 win over Temple in game two to move her overall batting average to .314 on the season, .410 in A-10 play.
Softball Pitchers of the Week
Brandice Balschmiter - Massachusetts
Junior, Pitcher, Newark, N.Y./Newark HS
Balschmiter went 4-0 on the week with a perfect 0.00 ERA and 33 strikeouts as she earned win number 77 of her career to move into second place on UMass' all-time wins list...has gone 25 innings without giving up a run, and 51.2 innings without giving up an earned run while moving her overall ERA to 0.67 with a 17-6 record on the season...struck out a season-high 14 batters including the first 11 faced in a 9-0 five-inning victory over Temple to set a UMass record for most strikeouts in a five-inning game (beat her previous record of 13)...threw two innings of relief striking out five of the seven batters faced while getting out of a bases loaded jam with no outs in a 4-0 victory over St. Joe's on Apr. 12...gave up no runs on just three hits with 11 strikeouts in a complete-game 1-0 victory over St. Joe's on Apr. 12...pitched a one-hitter with three strikeouts in a 8-0 five inning victory over Boston College on Apr. 9...sixth Pitcher of the Week honor.
Sherri Thompson - St. Bonaventure
Sophomore, Pitcher, Ulysses, Pa./North Potter HS
Thompson led the Bonnies to a 4-0 mark in league play after throwing three consecutive complete game shutouts...posted a 0.59 ERA in 28 innings of A-10 play...had 24 strikeouts in 28 innings and 29 total strikeouts on the week...in just her second at-bat this season, cracked a three-run pinch-hit homerun in the seventh inning to send the Bonnies past Fordham, 4-2, in game two on Apr. 13.
Softball Rookies of the Week
Jocelyn Dearborn - Fordham
Freshman, Outfielder, New Milford, Pa./Blue Ridge HS
Dearborn hit .407 with two home runs and eight RBI in a 6-2 week for Fordham...tied the Fordham freshman record for home runs in a season (seven)...became the third Rams' freshman ever to have 40 RBI or more in a season...hit safely in six of eight contests, with three multi-hit games...third Rookie of the Week honor.
Katy Hackett - Charlotte
Freshman, Pitcher, Dacula, Ga./Mill Creek HS
Hackett turned in her first collegiate shutout in game one of the 49ers' doubleheader sweep at Saint Louis on Apr. 12, holding the Billikens to just two hits...also got the save in game two of the Saint Louis series, pitching the final inning of the 5-4 win...struck out a dozen batters, giving up just three earned runs on the week in 13 innings of work for a 1.62 ERA.
Lacrosse Players of the Week
Mandy Friend - Richmond
Junior, Midfielder, Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy
Friend put in four goals in the Spiders' win over American on Apr. 9 and a hat trick in the overtime victory over Temple on Apr. 13 for sole possession of first-place in the league with a 5-0 mark...finished the week with 10 points on seven goals and three assists...scored the game-tying goal against the Owls to make it 9-9 and came up with four big draw controls to keep the Spiders in the game...versus American, Friend scored an impressive four goals and added two assists for six points...second Player of the Week honor.
Whitney Richards - Temple
Senior, Midfielder, Southampton, N.J./Holy Cross HS
Richards scored six goals and dished five assists to allow Temple to go 1-1 in two hard-fought games to close out the A-10 regular season...scored three goals on four shots, including the game-winner, and dished three assists in a 12-10 win at George Washington on Apr. 11...had five draw controls, three groundballs and two caused turnovers to complete her strong performance...had three goals and two assists including two late goals to give Temple a lead in a double-overtime loss to Richmond on Apr. 13...added six groundballs, four draw controls and three caused turnovers...third Player of the Week honor.
Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
Kelsey Schreiner - Massachusetts
Freshman, Midfield, Sherborn, Mass./Dover-Sherborn HS
Schreiner tallied five goals, including a career-high four goals at La Salle on Apr. 13, as the Minutewomen went 2-0 for the week with wins at St. Joe's and La Salle...also controlled five draws, had two groundballs, and caused one turnover for the week...scored three of her goals in the second half versus the Explorers.
Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Kara Courtney - Xavier
Junior, Newburgh, Ind./Reitz Memorial HS
Courtney went 6-0 on the week, winning all three singles and doubles matches she competed in...from the first flight in singles play, she defeated opponents from Northern Kentucky, 6-2, 6-0, on Apr. 9 and followed it with a 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (6) win against Cincinnati on Apr. 11...closed out the week with a 6-0, 6-2 victory against Dayton on Apr. 13, improving her singles record to 14-10 on the season...from No. 1 doubles, took an 8-3 victory against NKU, an 8-5 win against UC and 8-3 victory against UD.
Women's Tennis Rookies of the Week
Zena Williams - Duquesne
Freshman, Bellaire, Texas/American School of Bangkok
Williams earned her team-best 26th win of the season with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles against Akron on Apr. 12...also was an 8-2 winner at No. 2 doubles against Akron and posted an 8-6 victory at No. 2 doubles at Pittsburgh on Apr. 9...finishes regular season with an .866 winning percentage at singles (26-4).
Candynce Boney - Massachusetts
Freshman, Las Vegas, Nev./Canyon Springs HS
Boney went 4-0 on the week for the second week in a row, besting No. 2 opponents from Quinnipiac, 6-4, 6-2, on Apr. 9 as well as Rhode Island, 6-1, 6-2, on Apr. 12...notched a pair of No.1 doubles wins, winning 8-5 on Apr. 9 and 8-3 on Apr. 12...leads team in singles wins with 17 and doubles wins with 23....currently riding a seven-game doubles win streak.
Men's Golf Player of the Week
Paul Amess - Temple
Junior, Stevenage, England/Knights Templar HS
Amess finished third overall at the Princeton Invitational on Apr. 13 after carding a one-under, 212 (71-73-68)...fired the tournament's lowest final round, a three-under 68, to finish just a single stroke off the lead...was the fifth-lowest 54-hole score in program history and the best since he carded a 212 on Mar. 6-8, 2007...led the field with 14 birdies and was among the leaders in par three and par four scoring.
Men's Golf Rookie of the Week
Ian Gilley - Dayton
Freshman, Orlando, Fla./Lake Highland Prep
Gilley tallied rounds of 75-71-71 to place in a tie for fourth overall at the Norm Bullock Collegiate Classic on Apr. 14...his 71 was his best round of the season and his fourth-place finish was the best of his UD career...on the season, Gilley is tied for fourth on the team, recording 76.1 strokes per round.
Men's Outdoor Track and Field Performer/Rookie of the Week
Reggie Hill - Charlotte
Midlothian, Va./Manchester HS
Hill increased his Conference-leading, NCAA regional qualifying time in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.50 at the Sea Ray Relays on Apr. 11...also anchored the 4x400-meter relay team to a Conference-best mark of 3:12.78.
Women's Outdoor Track and Field Performer of the Week
Courtney Patterson - Charlotte
Senior, Fayetteville, N.C./Jack Britt HS
Patterson won the 100-meter dash at the Sea Ray Relays at the University of Tennessee on Apr. 11 with an NCAA regional qualifying time of 11.47, tying teammate Lamarra Currie for the Conference lead...also turned in a 23.96 in the 200-meter dash and was a member a second-place 4x100-meter relay team (45.24), both good for regional qualifiers.
Women's Outdoor Track and Field Rookie of the Week
Lindsey Pate - Charlotte
Freshman, Mills River, N.C./West Henderson HS
Pate turned in a mark of 145-1 in the discuss throw at the Sea Ray Relays at the University of Tennessee on Apr. 12...throw was just inches off the all-time program-leading distance set earlier this year, which was also an ECAC-qualifying mark.
