PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Three Atlantic 10 Conference women's lacrosse players earned preseason All-America honors as announced by Inside Lacrosse Magazine this afternoon. Richmond senior midfielder Mandy Friend was named to the magazine's preseason second-team while senior midfielder Hilary Richards of Temple and senior defender Katelyn Honeyford of George Washington earned third-team honors.
Friend was the A-10's second leading scorer in 2007 and is a two-time Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Association (IWLCA) All-American. She posted 62 goals and 77 points during the 2007 campaign, both new Richmond single season records. Friend scored in all but one contest, posting 12 hat tricks, four five-goal games, and a career-high six-goal performance to lead the Spiders in the A-10 Championship game.
Richards was named to the 2007 Atlantic 10 second-team All-Conference and the IWLCA Regional All-America second-team last season. Starting in all 17 games, Richards was second for Temple in groundballs (30), draw controls (33) and caused turnovers (14). She also added two goals and two assists for four points.
Honeyford became the first GW women's lacrosse player to earn IWLCA All-Region recognition a year ago after leading the Colonials to the six-year program's first-ever Atlantic 10 Championship final. The first-team All-Conference selection led the Colonials with 37 ground balls and 28 caused turnovers despite missing the final four games of the regular season. Honeyford also scored a single-season career-high 22 points on 17 goals and five assists.
