BABSON PARK, Mass. - After posting two excellent performances in a 1-1 week for Babson College, junior guard Zach Etten (Hollis, N.H.) has been named the NEWMAC Player of the Week for the first time this winter. Etten averaged 19.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 3.5 steals per game while shooting 52.0 percent (13-25) from the field and 90.0 percent (9-10) from the foul line in the Beavers' two contests this week. On Wednesday, he scored a season-high 29 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the floor and a 6-of-6 clip from the stripe to lead the Beavers to a 75-62 win at MIT. He also added three three-pointers, two steals, and a block in that game. The junior guard then posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds to go along with five steals in a 50-44 loss at Coast Guard on Saturday. Through 22 games, Etten ranks second on the team with 12.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game while leading the squad with 1.36 steals per outing. His 86.2 percent clip from the free throw line is also tops on the Beavers and ranks second in the NEWMAC. Having faced one of the toughest schedules in all of Division III this winter, Babson currently sports an overall record of 8-14. However, the Beavers are 5-5 in the highly-competitive NEWMAC, where they are mired in a log jam in the race for second place. They are presently tied with Springfield and Clark, with all three teams trailing Coast Guard by a half game. The Beavers close out their regular season competition with two huge contests against Springfield and first-place WPI this week.
