Equestrian Drops Spring Opener

Las Cruces, N.M. - The Baylor Equestrian team lost to the New Mexico State Aggies on Saturday afternoon at the NMSU Equestrian Center, 11-8. The Bears won the Hunter Seat competition 7-3 but dropped the Western competition 8-1. With the victory, the Aggies finished their 2007-08 home schedule undefeated at 4-0 and improved to 4-1 on the season while the Bears fall to 3-6 overall. Baylor's Hunter Seat team dominated the competition taking seven of the 10 possible points. Shelby White and Mary Smitson each earned two points for the Bears while Nicole Brown, Beth Banister and Heather Healy each chalked up a point for Baylor. Banister earned her second MVP of the season with a 76 point ride in Fences. Baylor's lone point in the Western discipline came in Horsemanship when Allison Orosz earned MVP honors, her first of the season, with a 74.5 ride. The Bears will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 12:00 p.m., when they travel to Nacogdoches, Texas, to take on Stephen F. Austin. Baylor posted an 8-4 win over S.F.
