Baylor's equestrian team earned its first road win of the season with a 10-6 triumph over Stephen F. Austin on Saturday at the Walter C. Todd Agriculture Center. With the 5-3 win in Hunter Seat competition and 5-3 margin in the Western events, the victory raised the Lady Bears' season record to 4-6 . "I was very pleased with everyone's performance today. I thought we rode very well and thus, were able to post a road win," said head coach Ellen White. In Baylor's win in Hunter Seat competition, sophomore Mary Smitson earned two of the team's five points, scoring in both Equitation Over Fences and Equitation on the Flat. Junior Nicole Brown was named MVP Over Fences, her seventh MVP season, with a ride of 78 and freshman Lauren Purkey also tallied a point in the same event. Completing Baylor's scoring in Hunter Seat competition was Cara Wilson, a junior, in Equitation on the Flat. Baylor swept MVP honors in Western competition with sophomore Lindsay Douglas scoring 74.5 in Horsemanship and Valtie Riddle, a sophomore, earning a score of 71 in Reining. It was the first MVP of the season for both student-athletes. Junior Nicole McCoy earned two of the team's five points with wins in both Horsemanship and Reining. Adding to the victory was senior Ashleigh Carlson's point in Horsemanship. Baylor returns to action on Friday, Feb. 8 when it hosts Texas A&M at the Willis Family Equestrian Center. Competition is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
