Women's Tennis Sweeps Mississippi, 7-0
March 16, 2008 OXFORD, Miss. - The fifth-ranked Baylor women's tennis team swept Mississippi 7-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center. Baylor (16-1) swept the doubles point, with No. 41 Taylor Ormond and Jelena Stanivuk defeating Mimi Renaudin and Laura van de Stroet 8-4 at number two doubles and Karolina Filipiak and Zuzana Chmelarova securing the point with an 8-5 win at number three doubles. Second-ranked Zuzana Zemenova and Lenka Broosova defeated No. 32 Nika Koukhartchouk and Karen Nijssen 8-5 at number one doubles. The Lady Bears claimed five of the six singles matches in straight sets. Wins on courts three, five and four sealed the deal. Eighth-ranked Broosova downed Nijssen 6-3, 6-1 on court three. She has now won 15 of her last 16 matches. No. 123 Stanivuk clipped Preethi Subramanian 6-2, 6-1 at number five singles, and No. 79 Jana Bielikova defeated Renaudin 6-2, 6-3 at flight four to clinch the match. No. 19 Ormond dropped the first set on court two 6-3, but rallied to take the second set 6-3, and won the match 10-5 in a third-set supertiebreaker. After dropping the first two games of the first set, No. 25 Zemenova won six-straight games to take the set 6-2 and held on to win the second set by a score of 7-5. Filipiak defeated Soledad Podlipnik 6-4, 6-3 on court six to secure the sweep for the Lady Bears. Baylor returns to action on Saturday as the Lady Bears travel to Lubbock, Texas to take on Texas Tech at 12 noon.
