College Park, Md. - The sixth-seeded Boston College softball team (31-31), battled hard against the third-seeded Florida State team (37-25), but fell in nine innings by the score of 5-1 in the first game of ACC tournament action at Robert E. Taylor Stadium in College Park, Md., Thursday.

Freshman Allison Gage (18-19) made her 35th start of the season, holding the Seminoles to just two hits in the first four innings of play. In her total 8.1 innings pitched, she faced 40 batters, giving up five runs and 11 hits.

Florida State tallied the game's first hit in the bottom of the second inning, but both teams went scoreless through the first four innings. Freshman Irene Delagrammaticas tallied her third double of the season to start off the third inning and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by senior Amanda Booth. Seminoles pitcher Tiffany McDonald then struck out the next two batters, finishing the top half of the inning scoreless.

Delagrammaticas notched her second hit of the game in the top of the fifth inning with two outs. Booth then tripled for the second time this season, scoring Delagrammaticas to break open the 0-0 score. Florida State marked back-to-back singles with no outs to begin the bottom half of the fifth inning. Sophomore Taylor Peyton then turned a double play for two outs, but FSU's Carly Wynn followed with an RBI single, the third hit of the inning, tying the score.

Junior Renee Ramos singled for her 58th hit this season in the top of the sixth inning, but both teams left runners on base in the sixth and seventh innings, keeping the score tied at one through regulation. The teams continued to battle in extra innings. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Florida State earned three back-to-back hits with no outs. With the bases loaded, Brittany Osmon hit a walk-off grand slam to centerfield, tallying the final score at 5-1 and lifting the Seminoles to the first victory of the ACC tournament.
