Women's Track Earns Best Finish in School History at ACC Championships

April 19, 2008

Atlanta, Ga. - After seniors Kasey Hill and Tiana Riel continued to make their marks on the Boston College track and field record books, the rest of the women's squad followed suit Saturday afternoon at the 2008 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, combining for an eighth place finish out of 12 teams, the best placement in school history.

The Eagles notched nine scoring performances overall. Three women, sophomores Caitlin Bailey and Samantha Gawrych and senior Mary Heitkamp, ran in the 800m championship. Bailey placed third with a time of 2:05.41, which qualifies her for the NCAA regional Championships. Gawrych took fifth (2:09.05) and Heitkamp clocked in at 2:10.84 for an eighth place finish.

Freshman Caroline King (4:32.78) and sophomore Jessica Driscoll (4:34.90) competed in the 1500m championship placing 11th and 12th respectively. Junior Nichole Lister placed sixth in the 5000m, crossing the finish line in 17:01.30. The women's 4x400 relay (Hill, Riel, senior Alison Fogarty and Bailey) earned a seventh-place finish with a time of 3:45.96.

As a team, BC earned 39 points over the three day Championships. The Virginia Tech women won the ACC crown with 172 total points. Miami placed second with 127 points and North Carolina took third with 115 points.
