Norfolk, Va. - Bethune-Cookman University softball got just their second shutout of the season on Monday as the `Cats held off Norfolk State, 3-0 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game held at the NSU Softball Field in Norfolk, Va. B-CU (9-27, 3-0 MEAC) started off the day with a run in the top-half of the first inning as left fielder Christina Trimble posted a RBI single to center that crossed Holly Bussey for the 1-0 lead. The Wildcats scored another run in the second as Anush Mooradian kicked off the inning with a double and came around to score on an Ashton Hinds RBI. NSU (6-20, 0-3 MEAC) was able to get a few hits off B-CU starter Allison Garcia, but never could muster up a run throughout the game. The Wildcats scored their last run of the contest in the seventh as senior first baseman Brandi Holley singled and later scored off a double steal employed by B-CU head coach Chris Cochran. The win went to Allison Garcia as she collected all three victories in the series sweep this weekend for the Wildcats. She jumped her record to 8-15 on the year as she went the full seven innings in the circle. She spread out seven hits and struck-out seven batters in the win. The loss went to NSU's Ky Brown as she went the full way for the Spartans allowing three runs (two earned) and walking one batter.
The Spartans were led at the plate by shortstop Jewel White with two hits in three at-bats. Five other NSU players collected a hit apiece on the day. As for the `Cats, they were led by Brandi Holley and Garcia with two hits each, as well as Mooradian with a hit and RBI. Holley had an RBI and seven putouts from her first base position. The next time B-CU hits the softball field will be on Wednesday, Apr. 2 at 5 p.m. when they travel to Jacksonville University.
