The Bowling Green State University men's golf team opened its' 2008 spring season on Monday carding a 619 (311-308) after sitting out nearly four months due to the weather. By the looks of things 36 holes was all that coach Garry Winger and his Falcons needed to get back into the swing of things as they fired a 294 (low team of the day) to climb three spots to finish the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate in ninth place.

The Falcons' 294 was not only the low round on Tuesday afternoon, no one else was even close. BGSU was the lone sub-300 team. Their nearest competitors were Elon and the Francis Marion, who both carded 300's.

Individually on Tuesday the Falcons were led by senior Trevor Spathelf, who carded a 71, matching the tournament low in the final round of action. Overall the Bowling Green, Ohio, native finished 42nd (232).

The top tournament spot for the Orange and Brown goes to sophomore Matt Schneider. The Grand Rapids, Minn., native had a solid all around tournament firing 76-77 on day one and finishing with a 73 on the final day. Overall he finished 20th (226).

Not far from Schneider's pace was fellow classmate John Powers, who after opening the tournament with an 81, rebounded nicely, finishing just three-over-par in the final 36 holes (73-74). For the tournament Powers finished 25th (228).

Senior Jace Walker went 78-75-76 (229) to finish 31st at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate, just one stroke behind Powers.

Other Falcon competitors included Russell Goodwin (242, 69th) and Bryan Mitchell (77th, 251).

Up next for the Falcons is a trip to Puerto Rico on Mar. 10-11 for the Palmas Del Mar Invitational.
