Women's Soccer Falcons Give Back to the Community

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - As the spring semester winds down, the Bowling Green State University women's soccer team took some time to give back to the community. The student-athletes donated their time and effort to a Habitat for Humanity project. The current members of the women's soccer Falcons made their annual trip to a Habitat for Humanity building site to offer their assistance. Rising junior Stacey Lucas shared some thoughts on the team's experience.
"After a few hours of hard work (and a cookie and drink break), the painters came to assist the landscapers. Together as a team, the girls moved a total of 15 tons of dirt to fill in holes and level out the yard. The girls' hard work in the weight room really paid off while pushing wheelbarrows to move the dirt, with only having a few mishaps where the wheelbarrow tipped over, each team member proved that they had the upper body strength to do some good old manual labor!! This was a very fun and rewarding day for the BGSU women's soccer team." Dave Belknap, Construction Manager for Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity, complimented the team's efforts as well. "We split the ladies into several different groups to paint a shed, paint attic covers and spread 15 tons of topsoil. To spread 15 tons of dirt is not an easy task. "After the painting groups finished, everyone attacked the mountain of dirt. Everyone did a nice job of shoveling, pushing, filling and raking. Their teamwork and effort was a pleasure to watch." As mentioned, the team's volunteer efforts with Habitat for Humanity have become an annual event. Saturday's project was part of the team's ongoing commitment to becoming actively involved in the community.
