Falcons Look To Display Talent In Two Day Event

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's track and field team walked away from the BGSU Women's Invite with a third place finish last week. This week they will once again be at home where they will host the two-day event, the Tom Wright Classic. The events will kick off with the weight throw at 5:00p.m inside the Perry Field House as the Falcons host the University of Toledo, IPFW, Defiance and Miami of Ohio. Last week the Falcons had 19 athletes finish within the top five, which contributed to their overall score of 116 points. The throwers, jumpers and pole-vaulters blazed the way for the Orange and Brown in the first six events, helping the team earn a quick 56 points. In the shot put, senior Liz Honegger brought home top honors with a distance of 13.43 meters. In addition, teammates TaKarra Dunning and Whitney Hartman brought home a third and sixth place finish. In the weight throw, Hartman earned herself another medal with a first place finish. TaKarra Dunning added another top five finish to her resume this season with a fourth place finish while Honegger finished sixth with a throw of 13.03 meters. Last week the team continued their success in the long jump. Freshman Brittani McNeal continued her impressive first season as she placed second with a distance of 5.62 meters. Teammate Amanda Sefcik helped the team accrue points with a fifth place finish. Youth led the way for the Falcons in long distance competition. Sophomore Carly Bates ran a 5:10.72 in the mile, which was good enough to place second. Freshman Barbara Powers was on her teammates heels finishing third with a time of 5:11.92. Senior Jamie Roflow paced the way for BGSU in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:25.18, which was good enough to place her second.
Also, as a note Kristin Carver will be competing in the Findlay Pentalthlon on Friday. Throws Clinic: Implements & Equipment: Shots and weights will be provided, but if you have your own, you may bring them, you will also need throwing shoes.
