Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week

Gonzales registered singles and doubles victories over ranked opponents in Illinois' dual with No. 1 Virginia.  Gonzales teamed with Brandon Davis to upend the nation's top-ranked doubles pair of Treat Huey and Somdev Devvarman.  With the match tied at 7-7, the Fighting Illini duo held the serve and then broke the Cavaliers' next service to take the win, 9-7.  The win helped Illinois take the doubles point from Virginia, who featured ranked doubles pairs at each position.  In No. 2 singles, Gonzales matched up against No. 12 Huey and won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.  The Terre Haute, Ind., native is now 2-0 on the season in singles.  This is Gonzales' second career weekly honor.
