Women's Track Athlete of the Week

Briene Simmons, Penn State
Sr., Decatur, Ga./Columbia

Simmons racked up two provisional qualifying marks at the Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup, placing second in the 800-meter run and first in the 4x400m relay.  Her 800m time of 2:07.84 currently ranks sixth in the country among collegiate competition.  The senior aided her Nittany Lion squad to a meet victory, outscoring the second place team by 62.5 points. This marks the first career weekly honor for Simmons.

Women's Field Athlete of the Week

Veronica Jatsek, Ohio State
Sr., Walton Hills, Ohio/Trinity
Jatsek tossed another NCAA provisional qualifying mark this weekend in the weight throw.  Her first-place heave of 20.93m. currently ranks fourth in the country and first in the Big Ten.  In the same meet, the senior placed second in the shot put with a hurl of 14.79m. This is Jatsek's third career weekly laurel.
