Women's Track Athlete of the Week

 

Jamie Cheever, Minnesota
Jr., Minneapolis, Minn. / Southwest

Cheever broke a 24-year Minnesota record in the mile race at the Meyo Invitational.  Her time of 4:39.54 automatically qualifies her for the NCAA Championships and currently ranks third in the country.  Before the day was out, Cheever also anchored the second-place Gopher distance medley relay squad which posted a provisional qualifying time of 11:09.35.  The Minnesota native takes home her first career weekly indoor award.

Women's Field Athlete of the Week

 

Lena Bettis, Penn State
Sr., Riverside, Calif. / J.W. North

Bettis set two career-bests at the Virginia Tech Elite Meet last weekend.  Her first-place long jump of 20-0.50 (6.11m) provisionally qualifies her for the NCAA Championships.  Bettis also provisionally qualified in the triple jump with a fifth-place leap of 41-9.25 (12.73m).  The Nittany Lion senior garners her second career weekly award.
