Esparza earns her first career weekly honor after earning a win and a save for Penn State over the weekend.

Player of the Week

Kara Weigle, Michigan State
Jr., OF, Naples, Fla. / Naples

Weigle helped Michigan State to two wins over the weekend in three games.  The junior batted .667 in all three games with a home run, a triple and five RBI.  Against Miami to start the weekend, Weigle went 2-for-2, scoring two runs and stole a base to lead the Spartans to a 9-1 win.  In a loss against Youngstown State on Sunday, the Naples, Fla., native was 1-for-3 with a run and another stolen base.  In game two of Sunday's double-header, Weigle wrapped up the week hitting a perfect 3-for-3 with a grand slam home run, a triple, stealing three bases and finishing the game with five RBI.  Michigan State defeated Toledo in that game, 11-2.  This is Weigle's third career weekly laurel.

Co-Pitchers of the Week

Nikki Nemitz, Michigan
So., P, St. Claire Shores, Mich. / Regina

Nemitz went 2-0 with 0.88 ERA on the weekend for the Wolverines.  In 7-0 win over UNLV on March 20, Nemitz pitched a complete seven innings, giving up just three hits, striking out a career-high 13 batters and did not surrender a run.  Against No. 7 Arizona on March 21, the St. Claire Shores, Mich., native went the distance again pitching a complete game shutout, giving up two hits with four strikeouts to earn the 2-0 win.  In the weekend finale, the sophomore pitched two innings giving up two runs on five hits with a pair of strikeouts in a 7-2 win over Louisiana Lafayette.  This is Nemitz's first career weekly honor.

Ashley Esparza, Penn State
Sr., P, San Pedro, Calif. / San Pedro

Esparza made two appearances in the three games played by Penn State over the weekend.  The senior posted a 0.70 ERA in those outings picking up a win and a save.  In her relief appearance against Youngstown State, Esparza pitched three innings without giving up a run or hit and struck out four batters.  In a 13-4 win over Miami (Ohio), the San Pedro, Calif., native pitched all seven innings, relinquishing just one earned run on six hits and striking out six.  This is Esparza's first career weekly accolade.
