Michigan's Sugiyama Earns Weekly Big Ten Tennis Honor



Sugiyama earns her second weekly accolade of the season and the fourth of her career.

Sugiyama won two singles matches and a pair of doubles matches to help extend Michigan's dual win streak to four with triumphs over Wisconsin and Marquette last weekend.  Sugiyama teamed with Tania Mahtani to jump start the Wolverines with an 8-4 win over Elizabeth Carpenter and Jessica Seyferth at No. 1 Doubles against the Badgers.  The junior then clinched the team win with a straight-set victory over Elizabeth Carpenter at No. 1 Singles, 6-2, 6-1.  Against the Golden Eagles, Sugiyama and Mahtani won once again at No. 1 Doubles with an 8-3 decision over Shannon Brown and Maria Calbeto.  The Parsippany, N.J., native finished her perfect weekend with a 6-2, 6-3, win over Erin Watkins at No. 1 Singles.  This is Sugiyama's fourth career weekly accolade.
