IRVING, Texas -- Jose Duran (Texas A&M) and Kyle Gibson (Missouri) have received the Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week awards, respectively, for games of May 5-11 in voting by a media panel. Both student-athletes are honored for the first time.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jose Duran, Texas A&M, SS, Jr., 5-11, 190, Fort Worth, Texas/North Central Texas College
Duran hit a team-high .421 in four road games last week with a home run, eight RBI and six runs scored. He also led the Aggies with a .542 on-base percentage while extending his hitting streak to 22 games. The Fort Worth, Texas native hit safely in every contest last week. Five of his eight RBI came with two outs.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Kyle Gibson, Missouri, RHP, So., 6-5, 185, Greenfield, Ind./Greenfield Central
Gibson recorded a complete-game win and a save over last weekend in Mizzou's three-game series at Kansas. On Friday, Gibson entered the contest in the ninth inning with the bases loaded and two outs and struck out the first batter he faced to record his first save of the year. Gibson then posted his second complete game victory of the season as Missouri run-ruled Kansas, 12-1 in seven innings, in the series finale on Sunday. He was perfect through the first 3.2 innings of the game and struck out eight, allowing just one run on five hits to improve to 8-1 on the year.
