Erica Baumgartner
April 15, 2008 BOSTON - After recording 12 points in two games last week, including a program record-tying effort with seven assists and nine points Wednesday against Stony Brook, sophomore Erica Baumgartner has been named the GoTerriers.com Student-Athlete of the week. Baumgartner also earned America East Player of the Week honors, as was announced Monday. The Silver Spring, Md., native helped the Terriers clinch home-field advantage for the conference tournament as the team earned two America East victories last week, with wins over Stony Brook (19-9) and No. 14/15 New Hampshire (7-6). On Wednesday, Baumgartner became the third Boston University player to record seven assists in a game, also marking the sixth time a Terrier has notched nine points in an outing. She then tallied a goal and two assists in a tight game against the Wildcats that secured at least a share of the regular-season conference title for BU. Baumgartner is eighth in the nation with 33 assists, also ranking sixth with 2.36 assists per game. After a solid freshman season in which she accumulated 24 points, including 17 assists, Baumgartner has become a key component of the Terriers' offense, which has scored the sixth most goals per game in the nation (15.05). Already, her season total is the third-best single-season sum, while her career mark has her ranked sixth in program history. BU wraps up its conference slate Saturday with a 4:00 p.m. start time at UMBC. With a win, the Terriers would clinch the regular-season conference title, marking the first time since 2005 BU has gone undefeated in America East play and the third time in program history. |
