Terriers Welcome Vermont to Agganis Arena Friday on ESPNU
Jan. 23, 2008 Game Notes | Gametracker | Listen Live BOSTON - In the first-ever nationally televised regular-season America East conference contest, the Boston University men's basketball team welcomes Vermont to Agganis Arena on Friday, Jan. 25 at 9 p.m. The Terriers (5-13, 2-4 America East) are looking to rebound from a loss to UMBC last Tuesday, while the Catamounts (9-9, 4-2 AE) have won three consecutive games. The game will be televised on ESPNU. Boston University has a 50-36 lead in the all-time series. The Terriers dominated the rivalry from 1984 to 1992, winning 17 straight games. But Vermont has won the last three consecutive match-ups (two by three or fewer points). The Catamounts have not had a stretch where they have been the dominant team, but UVM is 20-13 since BU went on its run and has won 12 of the last 19 games. The Catamounts are a half game out of first place in the America East. UVM has cruised in its last two wins - 75-68 over Maine and 72-62 against Stony Brook. Mike Trimboli and Marqus Blakely are the top two scorers in the league with 19.0 and 18.8 ppg, respectively. Trimboli is 47th and Blakely is 54th in the nation in points per game. Blakely is 21st in the country in blocks (2.5 bpg) and the team's leading rebounder as well, with 8.6 boards per game. Sophomore guard Corey Lowe (Newton, Mass.) is BU's leading scorer with 18.6 ppg. He is ranked 13th in the nation in made 3-pointers per game (3.8) but has missed the last two contests with a knee problem. Red-shirt sophomore Tyler Morris (Indianapolis, Ind.) and freshman John Holland (Bronx, N.Y.) have come on lately for the Terriers. In America East contests, Holland averages 11.8 ppg with Morris right behind averaging 10.0 ppg. Morris and Holland each scored in double figures in the 62-40 setback Boston University had against UMBC on Jan. 22. Retriever Cavell Johnson led all players with 13 points. BU suffered a 10:21 scoring drought in the first half and never recovered, shooting just 17.9 percent in the first period (5-for-28). The Terriers made a modest 10-6 run at the start of the second half - due almost entirely to Holland - to inch to within eight, 36-28, on a layup by red-shirt junior Matt Wolff (Walpole, Mass.) at 14:42, but that was as close as BU got the rest of the way.
Next up, BU hits the road for a pair of contests, starting with Maine on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 7:30 p.m. followed by UNH on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 4 p.m. |
