Holland Named AE Rookie of the Week
Feb. 4, 2008
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - For the second time this season, Boston University freshman guard/forward John Holland (Bronx, N.Y.) received the America East's Rookie of the Week distinction. Last week, he averaged 12.0 ppg and 8.0 rpg in BU's two wins over Maine and New Hampshire. Holland went 8-for-14 from the floor for the week, including 2-for-5 from the 3-point line. He was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line and tallied four assists and two steals. In the win over Maine on Jan. 31, the rookie had the Terriers first five points of the game and totaled 15 points and seven rebounds. Holland coolly sunk a pair of free throws with 34 seconds left when the Black Bears threatened late. He contributed nine points and nine rebounds in BU's victory at New Hampshire last Saturday. The guard/forward's lay up with 3:42 to go in the game gave the Terriers their largest lead, 62-44, of the game until the final minute. Holland earned AE Rookie of the Week honors for the week of Nov. 12 after coming off the bench to score 12 points on 4-for-7 shooting in Boston University's 68-57 win over St. Bonaventure to open the season on Nov. 9. He is averaging 12.0 ppg and 6.6 rpg in conference contests. The Terriers have a bye week before hosting Stony Brook on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 1 p.m. in Case Gym.
