Terriers Host Stony Brook Saturday
Feb. 7, 2008 Game Notes | Gametracker | Listen Live BOSTON - Looking to extend its win streak to three games, the Boston University men's basketball team returns home to welcome Stony Brook to Case Gym on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 1 p.m. The Terriers (7-14, 4-5 America East) are looking for their second consecutive league series sweep, while the Seawolves (4-18, 1-9 AE) hope to stop a eight-game losing skid. Boston U leads the all-times series, 11-3, and has won six of the last seven games with the Seawolves. The series dates back to 2001-02 when SBU joined the America East. Just one game has gone into overtime, with Stony Brook pulling out a six-point win, 68-62, last season. In the first meeting this year, BU fell behind late in the first half when the Terriers went scoreless over the final seven minutes of the period. But Boston University fought back over the course of the second frame, spurred by timely threes from junior guard/forward Matt Wolff (Walpole, Mass.), to move back in front for good with 6:45 to go in the game. Red-shirt sophomore Tyler Morris (Indianapolis, Ind.) scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed a career-high-tying six rebounds. Stony Brook dropped a 75-63 decision to league-leading UMBC in the Seawolves' last time out. The Seawolves have not been able to claim a victory since a 75-59 win at Maine on Jan. 6. Ricky Lucas' 13.9 ppg and Mitchell Beauford's 10.0 ppg lead SBU on offense. Demetrius Young is the Seawolves' top rebounder, averaging 7.5 rpg. Sophomore guard Corey Lowe (Newton, Mass.) continues to be the Terriers' leading scorer with 18.2 ppg. For the second time this season, freshman guard/forward John Holland (Bronx, N.Y.) received the America East Rookie of the Week distinction. He averaged 12.0 ppg and 8.0 rpg in BU's two wins against Maine and UNH last week.
Classmates Lowe and forward Scott Brittain (Oakville, Ont.) led BU against UNH on Feb. 2. Lowe hit five 3-pointers and Brittain chipped in 15 points and 13 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. Despite a slow start to the second half, the Terriers' first-period lead never wavered, increasing to as many as 19 in the waning minutes of the contest. BU scored 18 points off 14 UNH turnovers and limited the Wildcats' Alvin Abreu to one field goal and six points, down from his average of 12.5 ppg. The Terriers out-rebounded UNH, 37-23, and held the Wildcats to just two offensive rebounds. For the second game in a row, BU got out to an early advantage and never lost it and that paid off with the Terriers' biggest win of the season. The Terriers will look to avenge a conference season-opening loss to Binghamton when BU hosts the Bearcats on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. in Case Gymnasium. |
