Terriers Face Binghamton on Tuesday
Feb. 9, 2008 Game Notes | Gametracker | Listen Live BOSTON - The Boston University men's basketball team hopes to continue its momentum on Tuesday, Feb. 12 when the Terriers (8-14, 5-5 America East) welcome Binghamton to Case Gym at 7 p.m. The Bearcats (10-13, 6-5 AE) defeated Boston U in the teams' match-up earlier this season, but the Terriers have won their last three games. Boston U leads the all-time series, 10-4, winning the first seven games and three of the last four. The Terriers and the Bearcats began their rivalry in 2002, the year Binghamton joined the America East. In the squads' first meeting this season, the Bearcats defeated Boston U, 69-49, in Vestal, N.Y. Terrier sophomore forward Scott Brittain (Oakville, Ont.) led Boston U with 11 points and five rebounds. Mike Gordon was Binghamton's top scorer with 17 points. Binghamton went on a seven-minute, 13-2 run late in the second half to secure the win over Boston University. Binghamton's comeback bid against league-leading UMBC fell short, 63-59, on Feb. 9 in the Bearcats' last time out. Binghamton never led and was down by as many as 20 points, but the Bearcats clawed all the way back to tie the game with 2:02 left. However the Retrievers got a key offensive rebound and second-chance basket and then went 2-for-3 from the line to seal the win. Lazar Trifunovic is Binghamton's leading scorer and rebounder, with 14.9 ppg and 7.4 rpg. Gordon averages 11.7 ppg, and Richard Forbes is the third Bearcat averaging double figures, with 11.6 ppg. Sophomore guard Corey Lowe (Newton, Mass.) has turned in back-to-back 20-plus point games and leads the Terrier offense with 18.4 ppg. Classmates Carlos Strong (Portland, Maine) and Brittain are the other two BU players averaging double digits. Strong posts 11.1 ppg, while Brittain adds 10.1 ppg. Reigning America East Rookie of the Week John Holland (Bronx, N.Y.) has picked up his play during the conference season and averages 12.3 ppg and 7.4 rpg in league games.
The Terriers continued to roll with a 64-60 win at home against Stony Brook on Feb. 9. Lowe led all players with 21 points, and Holland posted his second double-double of the year with 15 points and a career-best 14 rebounds. The Terriers held the Seawolves without a field goal for the final nine minutes of the first half while going on a 12-2 run to earn a lead BU didn't give up the rest of the way. But Stony Brook didn't fade, cutting the Terriers' edge to as few as one point in the second half, but BU held on for the win. The Terriers will travel to Vermont to face the Catamounts on Thursday, Feb. 14 at 8 p.m. in a game televised on NESN. |
