Holland Repeats as AE Rookie of the Week
Feb. 11, 2008
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Freshman guard/forward John Holland (Bronx, N.Y.) received the America East Rookie of the Week award for the second consecutive week following a 15-point, 14-rebound performance against Stony Brook on Feb. 9. He shares the honor with Hartford's Morgan Sabia. With BU trailing in the first half, he had the rebound that led to a Terrier fast-break layup which cut Stony Brook's lead to one, and Holland sunk a pair of free throws with a minute to go before the half which gave BU the lead for good. Both of his made threes came at opportune times for the Terriers in the second half. His first gave BU its biggest lead of the game, 45-35, and the second gave the Terriers some breathing room after the Seawolves had trimmed BU's advantage to one, 49-48. Holland earned AE Rookie of the Week honors for the week of Nov. 12 after coming off the bench to score 12 points on 4-for-7 shooting in Boston University's 68-57 win over St. Bonaventure to open the season on Nov. 9. The New York native picked up the distinction last week after averaging 12.0 ppg and 8.5 rpg in the Terriers' wins over Maine and New Hampshire. He is averaging 12.3 ppg and 7.4 rebounds per game in conference contests. The Terriers welcome Binghamton to Case Gym tomorrow at 7 p.m. and then travel to Vermont on Thursday, Feb. 14 to play at 8 p.m. on NESN.
