Holland Receives Fourth Straight AE Rookie Honor
Feb. 25, 2008
BOSTON - Freshman guard/forward John Holland (Bronx, N.Y.) averaged 20.5 ppg to lead the Boston University men's basketball team (12-15, 8-6 America East) to two victories last week and earn his fourth consecutive America East Rookie of the Week distinction. He shares the award with UNH's Alvin Abreu. In the 73-54 win over Maine, he led all scorers with 23 points on a career-high 10-for-17 shooting. Fifteen of those points came in the first half on 7-for-10 shooting. His fourth dunk of the game gave BU its largest lead of the contest, 31 points, early in the second half. The Bronx, N.Y. native tallied 12 of the Terriers' season-high 40 points in the paint and assisted on eight more paint points. Holland posted 18 points on 6-for-10 shooting in the 67-64 win at St Peter's last Saturday, going 4-for-6 from deep and adding 7 rebounds and a team-best 3 steals. The freshman scored nine points in each half - BU's first nine points of the game on three straight threes and then five of the Terriers' most important points, a three with 3:28 to go that cut SPC's lead to two and then two free throws on a one-and-one with 4 seconds left that iced the win for BU. The Terriers host Hartford on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. in Case Gym in BU's last regular-season home game.
