July 18, 2008
Non-Conference Schedule | Season Tickets | 100th Season Logo BOSTON - Highlighted by seven home games and road match-ups against two defending conference champions, the Boston University men's basketball non-conference schedule for 2008-09 - the Terriers' 100th season in program history - has been announced by head coach Dennis Wolff. In the first of at least three non-conference games in Agganis Arena, the Terriers open the season against George Washington on Friday, Nov. 14. During that game, members of the 1958-59 Elite Eight team will be honored at halftime for the 50th anniversary of their achievements. As part of the 100th season celebration, BU is unveiling a logo to commemorate the program's milestone. The players will wear special 100th season patches on their uniform as well. In other Agganis Arena action, BU welcomes Marshall on Saturday, Dec. 6, and Holy Cross on Friday, Jan. 2, at 7 p.m. "We have our usual challenging non-conference schedule," noted Wolff. "It should be an exciting, competitive year, and our non-conference games should prepare us for another tough America East season." BU's only other home game in the month of November is against St. Peter's on Saturday, Nov. 22, at 1 p.m. at The Roof. Last season, the Terriers and the Peacocks were matched up in the O'Reilly/ESPNU BracketBusters. Boston University will visit Bucknell on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m., cross-town rival Northeastern on Tuesday, Nov. 25, at 7 p.m. and then travel down to Maryland to Northeast Conference champion Mount St. Mary's on Saturday, Nov. 29, at 7 p.m. The Mount went 19-15 en route to an NCAA first-round tilt with No. 1 seed North Carolina in 2008. The Terriers kick off December at Harvard on Wednesday, Dec. 3, before hosting Marshall. BU welcomes Yale to The Roof on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 7 p.m. before heading west to face Notre Dame on Saturday, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m. Last season, the Irish received an at-large bid and reached the second round of the NCAA tournament before finishing the year with a 25-8 overall record, including a 14-4 mark in Big East play.
BU hosts Delaware on Sunday, Dec. 21, before tipping off with Cornell, the 2008 Ivy League champion, on Monday, Dec. 29, at 7 p.m. in Newman Arena. The Big Red collected its conference title with a perfect 14-0 league record and ended the year with a 22-6 mark after falling to No. 3 seed Stanford in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Cornell returns the 2008 Ivy League Player of the Year in Louis Dale, who averaged 13.8 ppg and 5.0 apg during last season. The Terriers round out the non-conference slate with the match-up against Holy Cross at Agganis Arena. Last season, the duo of sophomore Corey Lowe and freshman John Holland led BU to nine wins in its last 12 games. Holland was named America East Rookie of the Year and earned places on the third-team all-conference, all-rookie and all-defensive teams. Lowe received second-team all-conference honors.
