Men's and Women's Track Take Second at Battle of Beantown

ALLSTON, Mass. - The Boston University men's and women's track teams both took second place at the first-ever Battle of Beantown at Harvard's Gordon Indoor Track. Senior Tahari James and sophomore Whitney Ford finished first and second in the long jump and triple jump, while freshman Joel Senick finished first in the 200m dash and second in the 60m. The women's team finished second with 126 points, behind Boston College (175) and ahead of both Boston College (112) and Harvard (103). Ford (7.72) and James (7.72) also finished second and third, respectively, in the 60m dash, followed by senior Erin Catarius (7.96, 7) and freshman Laura Martin (8.06, 11). James (25.52, 1) and Ford (25.65) were again the top two Terrier finishers in the 200m dash, followed by junior Lexi Beaudet (26.40, 14). Junior Rebecca Marshburn (58.12) placed second in the 400m dash, while sophomore Mimi Maritz (1:00.55) finished fourth and freshman Amanda Howard (1:00.84) finished fifth. Sophomore Casey Jordan's 1:18.29 time in the 500m was good for fourth, followed by sophomore Andrea Tingue (1:22.86, 8). Freshmen Emma Reed (5:09.38, 8) and Molly James (5:29.99, 11) placed in the mile run, while junior Katie Weider finished third in the 800m with a 2:14.97 mark. Sophomore Sarah Mosser crossed at 2:54.17 in the 1000m for a fourth place finish, followed by Senior Anne Wighton at 2:01.72 for sixth place. Seniors Marisa Ryan (9:25.44, 1) and Andrea Walkonen (9:42.53, 2) took the top two spots in the 3000m run. Marshburn (9.20) finished sixth in the 60m hurdles, followed by Jordan (10.03, 8) and senior Megan LaBella (9.99, 9). BU's team took third in the 4x400m with a 4:02.85 mark.
In the field events, LaBella took eighth in the high jump with a 1.55m jump, while Maritz (3.35m, 5) and sophomore Fiona Romeri (3.05m, 9) both placed in the pole vault. Senior Edwina Clark (5.32m, 8) and Fanucci (5.14m, 10) placed behind James (6.02m, 1) and Ford (5.76m, 2) in the long jump. LaBella finished fifth in the shot put with a 10.69m throw, while freshman Jen Fleser (12.82m, 5) was the only Terrier thrower in the weight throw. James (12.66m, 1) and Ford (12.18, 2) took the top spots in the triple jump. The men finished second with 130 points, behind Northeastern (172) but ahead of both Boston College (111) and Harvard (108). In the men's track events, freshman Rich Haigh (7.15, 3) finished behind Senick (7.11, 2), followed by sophomore Kodjo Wilder (7.37, 7) and junior David Barth (7.45, 8). Haigh (23.15, 3) also finished behind Senick (22.42, 1) in the 200m dash, trailed by sophomore Max Esposito (23.82, 7). In the 400m dash, senior Chad Steinhauser placed second with a 50.00 mark, followed by Esposito (52.50, 7), sophomore Adam Churey (52.78, 9) and senior Keith Buchanan (52.82, 10). Sophomore Mark Mazzochette (1:07.92, 4) was the first BU runner to cross in the 500m dash, with freshman Michael Zimmerman (1:08.45, 6) and junior Joe Pike (1:10.06, 8) crossing after. In the mile run, senior Dan Sieczkiewicz (4:18.04, 3), freshman Ken Haltom (4:23.07, 6) and junior Tom McLean (4:24.88, 7) all placed, while senior Jake Laroe (1:55.48, 2) and freshman Sean Gallagher (2:03.71, 9) both placed in the 800m. Freshman James Weider finished the 1000m in 2:39.50 for a sixth place finish, while sophomore Eric Ashe (8:30.69) ranked fifth in the 300m. Junior Jason Nardella (8.53, 3), senior Greg Daggett (8.98, 4) and sophomore Logan Moore (9.16, 6) all placed in the 60m hurdles, while the Terriers 4x400 team ranked first with a 3:24.19 time and the 4x800 team finished .84 seconds behind first place for a 8:01.96 time in the second spot. Haigh placed third in the high jump (1.89m), with Daggett (J4.27m, 4), Moore (J4.12m, 6) and Cumper (J3.97m, 8) all placing in the pole vault. Wilder (6.23m) took seventh in the long jump, with sophomore Mac-Alen Gerard (13.78m) placing second in the triple jump and Daggett (12.29m) placing sixth. Junior Jan Bicanic (15.80m) had the best shot put mark for the second straight meet, followed by freshman Dan Withrow (14.85, 3), junior Dan Martin (14.42, 4) and Moore (13.18, 9). The next meet for the Terriers will be the Valentine Invitational at the Track and Tennis Center on Feb. 8 at 1:00 p.m. |
