Outdoor Track and Field Shows Strong in Field Events at Florida Relays

The Boston University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams competed on both coasts this weekend, with athletes participating at the Florida Relays in Gainsville, Fla., as well as at the Stanford Invitational in Stanford, Calif. Senior Tahari James took first in the long jump and second in the triple jump in Florida, while seniors Marisa Ryan and Andrea Walkonen both placed in the 10000m in California. James's 6.01m long jump earned her first place, while junior Edwina Clark took ninth with a J5.65m distance. James finished second in the triple jump with a 12.91m mark, followed by sophomore Whitney Ford (12.48m, 3). Sophomore Mimi Maritz (3.20m) placed eighth in the pole vault and freshman Karly Neveu (J1.65m) took 12th in the high jump. The women's 4x100m team placed 17th with a 47.29 time, while junior Rebecca Marshburn took 36th in the 100m hurdles (14.94) and 28th in the 400m hurdles (1:03.33), finishing behind sophomore Casey Jordan (1:01.79, 19). Junior Katie Weider (2:12.66) and freshman Emma Reed (2:15.47) took 12th and 20th, respectively, in the 800m, and graduate student Kat Warden (4:36.89, 8) and senior Anne Wighton (4:37.18, 9) both finished in the top ten in the 1500m. Ford (12.22) placed 42nd in the 100m dash, with freshman Laura Martin (12.67) coming in 48th, and freshman Amanda Howard finished 47th in the 400m with a 59.46 time.
On the men's side, sophomore Eric Ashe placed third in the 3000m steeplechase with a 9:21.80 time, while sophomore Jan Bicanic took fourth in the discus with a 51.24m distance and freshman Dan Withrow finished fifth with a 51.22m throw. Bicanic also tied for 11th in the shot put with a 14.61m distance, along with senior Dan Martin (14.61, T-11). Junior Kodjo Wilder placed 14th in the long jump with a 6.66m distance. Freshman Ken Haltom took 11th in the 1500m with a 3:57.61 time and senior Chadd Steinhauser finished 37th in the 800m with a 1:56.97 mark, while junior Jason Nardella (15.65) placed 48th in the 110m hurdles and sophomore Mark Mazzochette (55.89, 32) and freshman Mike Zimmerman (59.42, 36) both placed in the 400m hurdles. At the Stanford Invitational, Ryan took 11th in the 10000m run with a 33:47.00 time and Walkonen placed 22nd with a 34:27.88 mark. |
