Women's Basketball Set to Play Stony Brook Saturday
Feb. 29, 2008 Listen Live | Gametracker | Game Notes BOSTON - The Boston University women's basketball team (15-11, 8-5 AE) will travel to Stony Brook (6-20, 1-12 AE) on Saturday, March 1 for a 4:30 p.m. contest. The Terriers are coming off a 66-39 victory over UNH, while the Seawolves recently dropped a 73-72 decision to Binghamton. BU holds the 9-7 advantage in the all-time series. SBU joined the America East during the 2001-02 season, commencing the rivalry by defeating BU, 67-60, on Jan. 13, 2002. Boston University claimed its first win in the series a month later on Feb. 21, 2002, in a 62-48 decision. During the 2003-04 campaign, the Terriers made it three in a row with a 67-66 home win. That year both games were decided by two points or less, as BU dropped a 72-70 decision on Feb. 25, 2004. Over the past three seasons, the Terriers and Seawolves have met a combined nine times, seven during the regular season and two AE conference tournament games. In the meeting earlier this season on Jan. 19, juniors Jesyka Burks-Wiley and Christine Kinneary each recorded double-doubles in an 89-40 victory. Burks-Wiley led all scorers with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Kinneary posted 11 points and dished out 10 assists. The Terriers featured six players in double figures and led by as many as 56 points in the contest. BU shot 48 percent (36-for-75) for the game, and 31.6 from the behind the arc. The team out-rebounded the Seawolves by a 61-39 margin, marking the first time since Nov. 17, 2001 a Terrier squad brought down 60 or more boards. Stony Brook has struggled in conference play this season, earning its lone victory against Maine, 72-65, on Jan. 16. Since that meeting, the Seawolves have dropped 10 straight, including BU's 89-40 triumph on Jan. 19. That win was the Terriers' largest margin of victory all season. The Seawolves are averaging 56.4 ppg with senior Aly Young leading the way (10.1 ppg). Young is the only one in double figures; however, close behind is freshman Kirsten Jeter with 9.2 ppg. Senior Dana Ferraro is the team's leading rebounder with 9.0 rpg.
Boston University has the most prolific offense in the conference with 68.7 ppg and the most accurate shot from the free throw line with a .779 percentage. The Terriers' defense has been solid around the arc, holding opponents to 27.5 percent - a league best. In addition, BU has turned the ball over the least amount of times in the America East and is ranked 13th in the nation with just 14.0 turnovers per game. Individually, Kinneary remains among the nation's elite in assists per game (6.9), ranking seventh, while standing at fifth in assist/turnover ratio (2.42). She has also surged on the offensive front with double-figure scoring in four of the last five games - including a career-high 20 points. Burks-Wiley is leading the way with 13.4 ppg and 6.1 rpg, while senior Kasey Devine has swatted 46 shots to rank second in the conference. Following Saturday's game, BU will travel to UMBC for its final road game of the season on Wednesday, March 5 at 7:00 p.m. In the regular-season finale on March 8, the Terriers will host Albany on Senior Day at 1:00 p.m. at Case Gym. |
