Terriers Gain Fourth-Consecutive Win with 2-0 Decision Against Vermont

Burlington, Vt. - The Boston University women's ice hockey team won a 2-0 decision Saturday, sweeping the two-game weekend series at Vermont. Freshman Holly Lorms and junior Caroline Bourdeau both scored in the second period, while junior Allyse Wilcox held the Catamounts scoreless.

With two wins over the weekend, the Terriers (12-12-3, 8-6-1 HE) leap-frogged both Boston College and Providence, earning the third spot in Hockey East and hold a one-point lead over the Friars. It marks the first time all season the BU has had a winning percentage at or above .500.

Wilcox did not allow a goal all weekend, as Vermont's lone goal in the two games was scored on an open net. After Saturday's game, the netminder is ranked fourth in the nation save percentage (.939) and seventh in goals against average (1.59). The shutout Saturday was her second of the season.

Both Bourdeau and Lorms notched their second points of the weekend, as the sophomore scored the Terriers second goal in yesterday's meeting with the Catamounts and Lorms assisted on the team's first goal in Friday's affair.

After a scoreless first period, during which both teams combined for 15 shots on goal, Lorms got the Terriers on the board with a score at 14:43 of the second period off assists from sophomore Jonnie Bloemers and junior Laurel Koller.

Just over three minutes later, Bourdeau added an insurance goal at 17:58 of the second period off an assist from senior Julie Poulin.

Although Vermont had 11 shots on goal in the third period and a power-play opportunity, the Catamounts failed to convert, giving the Terriers a sweep in the season-series. Both teams went without a goal on three power-play chances, while BU out-shot Vermont 26-22.

 

 

The Terriers' next game is the Beanpot championship, hosted by BU at Walter Brown Arena at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 12. After Northeastern and Boston College face-off in the consolation game at 5:00 p.m., the Terriers take on No. 1 Harvard for the title.
