Jan. 25, 2008

BOSTON - The Boston University women's ice hockey team hosts Maine for two games this weekend, including the team's first ever game at Agganis Arena Saturday (Jan. 26) at 2:00 p.m. The Terriers and Black Bears will meet again on Sunday (Jan. 27) at Agganis Arena at 3:00 p.m. Saturday's game will be the first of three in a six-day span for the Terriers, who will visit Providence Thursday.

The game will mark the final two meetings between the conference rivals this season. Boston University (7-11-2, 4-5-0 HE) skated to a 3-2 victory in Orono on Nov. 20, starting off a span in which the Terriers won five out of six games. Juniors Nicki Wiart and Erin Seman and sophomore Sarah Appleton each scored in the game, earning BU its first conference win of the season.

The Terriers dropped two games to conference rivals last weekend, surrendering a late goal to fall to No. 8 Connecticut 3-2 Saturday and skating to a 3-1 loss at Providence Sunday. The loss to the Huskies halted a four game winning streak for Boston University that began December 2 against Vermont. After falling behind 2-0 after two periods, the Terriers scored twice in the third period off goals from juniors Laurel Koller and co-captain Gina Kearns, both of which were assisted by sophomore Sarah Appleton. However, Connecticut scored the game-winner with 4:24 remaining in the game, delivering BU's fourth conference loss of the season. BU was unable to gain its footing Sunday, as the Terriers allowed the Friars to score in each period at Schneider Arena. After having her five game point streak broken Saturday, freshman Jillian Kirchner scored the Terriers' lone goal off an assist from Caroline Bourdeau.

Maine (2-18-2, 1-6-2 HE) is coming off its second win of the season, taking a 4-1 game against Northeastern Sunday. Three third-period goals seized victory for the Black Bears, after both sides scored in the second period. Maine goaltender Genevieve Turgeon made 25 saves on the day and has won Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week honors four times this season.

Following Sunday's game, the Terriers head to Providence Thursday for a 7:00 p.m. game.
