Anderson, Wilcox Garner Hockey East Honors
Feb. 5, 2008
WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Sophomore Melissa Anderson and junior Allyse Wilcox were named the Hockey East TPS Hockey Player of the Week and Pure Hockey Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, as was announced by the league office Monday. Anderson notched four points over two games this week, including a two-goal, one-assist performance against Providence in a 3-1 Terrier victory at Walter Brown Arena Saturday. In that same game, Wilcox amassed 46 saves en route to her team-leading seventh win. With the impressive statistics this week, Anderson (9-10-19) regained the team lead for both goals and points. The Langley, B.C., native has collected points in 11 out of 24 games this season and is currently riding a three-game point streak, also notching points in six of the last nine games. Her nine goals this season are just three shy of her total last year, when she led the team in points as a freshman (12-22-34). Wilcox's 46-save effort was her personal high, overtaking a 45-save performance on Feb. 11, 2006 against this same Providence team. The effort was the second-best in Terrier history, behind sophomore Melissa Haber's 50-save game against Dartmouth on Oct. 28, 2007. The goaltender from Grand Blanc, Mich., has earned a 7-7-1 record this season, with five of those wins coming over her last eight starts. Wilcox's 1.83 goals against average is good for eighth best in the nation, while her .931 save percentage is sixth. This was the second time this season the netminder has made more than 40 saves, after stopping 41 shots Dec. 1 against New Hampshire. The Terriers kick off Beanpot competition Tuesday (Feb. 5) night, facing Boston College in the opening round at 8:00 p.m. at Walter Brown Arena. The game will be preceded by a match-up between Northeastern and Harvard at 5:00 p.m. The championship and consolation games will be held the following week on Feb. 12
