Terriers Head to Vermont for Two This Weekend
Feb. 8, 2008
BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Boston University women's ice hockey team (10-12-3, 6-6-2 HE) heads to Vermont this weekend for two games against the Catamounts (5-20-1, 1-11-1 HE), at 7:00 p.m. on Friday (Feb. 8) and 4:00 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 9). With four points at steak over the weekend and trailing Boston College by one point for the fourth spot in Hockey East, the Terriers hope to overtake their cross-town rivals. Boston University is coming off a dramatic 3-1 victory over BC in the opening round of the Beanpot Tournament Tuesday at Walter Brown Arena. After Harvard skated past Northeastern to advance to the championship, the Terriers and Eagles squared up in the night cap. Junior co-captain Gina Kearns got BU on the board in the first period, while sophomore Jonnie Bloemers scored the game-winner in the third frame and senior Julie Poulin scored an insurance goal less than a minute later. Junior Allyse Wilcox secured the win, making 24 saves on the night. The Catamounts currently sit at the bottom of the Hockey East standings after losing two games at Boston College last weekend and losing 13 of their last 14 games. After opening the season with four straight wins against Sacred Heart and Union, Vermont has only captured one victory since - a 2-1 win over Providence on January 26. Freshman Teddy Fortin (4-7-11) leads the Catamounts in both assists and points, while freshman Molly Morrison (6-3-9) tops the team in goals. Sophomore Kristen Olychuck has spent the majority of the team's minutes in goal, posting a 5-15-1 record with a 2.74 goals against average, a .905 save percentage and two shutouts.
