The Boston University women's ice hockey team heads to Storrs, Conn., this weekend for its first appearance in the Hockey East playoffs. The Terriers will face defending champion No. 2 New Hampshire in the opening round at noon on Saturday (March 8) at Freitas Ice Forum.

The game will be webcast live by B2 Networks.

Boston University (15-16-3, 11-9-1 HE) is winless in nine attempts against the Wildcats since the Terriers became a varsity program in 2005. BU has a 0-9-0 record against UNH, but has closed the gap significantly over the past season. While the Terriers were outscored 24-2 in the first five meetings between the teams, the margin has shifted to 13-6 over the past four games.

On Dec. 1, 2007, the Terriers built a 2-1 lead heading into the third period at the Whittemore Center behind goals from junior Laurel Koller and freshman Lauren Cherewyk. However, a UNH goal 4:33 into the third frame knotted the score and led the teams to an overtime battle. With only three seconds remaining in the extra period, the Wildcats notched the game-winner, denying BU its first point against their conference rival.

The teams played another close game on Oct. 21, 2007, when the Terriers, skating down two goals at the Whittemore Center, scored a second-period goal off the stick of sophomore Sarah Appleton to close the gap to one. However, UNH regained its two-goal cushion in the third period for a final score of 3-2.

The winner will head on to face either Providence or No. 10 Connecticut in the championship game Sunday (March 9) at 12:30 p.m. The Friars and Huskies will face-off at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, also at Freitas Ice Forum.
