Terriers Earn Awards at Hockey East Banquet
March 10, 2008
STORRS, Conn. - Several members of the Boston University women's ice hockey team were rewarded for this season's efforts Friday night at the Hockey East banquet, as head coach Brian Durocher was named the conference's Coach of the Year, junior Allyse Wilcox earned a spot as a First-Team All-Star and sophomore Melissa Anderson was tabbed as a Second-Team All-Star. Durocher led the Terriers to their first playoff berth after only three years as a varsity program, celebrating his 100th game at the helm on March 1 in a game against Northeastern at Walter Brown Arena. Along with assistant coaches Erika Silva, Kerstin Matthews and Todd Langlais, Durocher helped Boston University to a 15-16-3 record overall, including an 11-9-1 record in Hockey East. The Terriers faced some of the top teams in the nation in competition, including Harvard, New Hampshire, Mercyhurst, Minnesota and Dartmouth. Wilcox earned a 12-12-2 record this season, holding the seventh best save percentage in the nation (.925) while ranking ninth in goals against average (1.96). The Grand Blanc, Mich., native also had three shutout performances during the season while playing 72.1 percent of the Terriers' minutes in goal. Anderson (16-13-29) led the team in both goals and points, also tying for third on the team in assists. She fell just five points shy of her points total from last year, although she improved on the number of goals scored after tallying 12 during the 2006-07 season.
This year, BU earned its first playoff bid since becoming a varsity program for the 2005-06 season. The Terriers drew a first-round match-up against No. 2 New Hampshire and fell, 8-0, against the Wildcats on March 9. |
