Women's Soccer and UNH Clash in Key Conference Match-up
Oct. 25, 2007
BOSTON - In a battle of the America East Conference's top two teams, the Boston University women's soccer team makes the short trip north to Durham, N.H. to face New Hampshire on Thursday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. BU leads the all-time series 11-3 and over the past four years has won each of the six contests played between the two squads. BU is 8-6-2 overall and 5-1-0 in AE action, while UNH stands at 10-5-1 overall and 6-1-0 in conference play. BU is coming off one of its biggest wins of the conference season as it snapped Stony Brook's ten-game win streak with a convincing 3-0 victory in Stony Brook, N.Y. The win moved the Terriers into sole possession of second place in the league standings, behind only UNH. Senior Christina Reuter (Madison, Wis.) made 14 saves to earn the shutout and was one stop shy of tying a single-game record for saves. Sophomore Emily Pallotta (Andover, Mass.) netted the game-winning goal in the 10th minute, and junior Shannon Mullen (Dallas, Texas) and freshman Stephanie Croghan (McLean, Va.) added insurance goals. Reuter is 12th in the nation in save percentage (.881) and 39th in goals-against average (0.694), while the team's defense is seventh in save percentage (.891) and 18th in GAA (0.604). New Hampshire won both its contests last week, using a pair of late goals to earn the come-from-behind victory against Maine, 2-1, and held Hartford scoreless on the road to win 1-0. The Wildcats have guaranteed themselves a first- or second-place finish in the league standings. They also have a first-round bye in the conference tournament. Michelle Sheehan leads a prolific offense with eight goals and two assists for 18 points. She is followed closely by Caitlin Whelan with five goals and six assists for 16 points. Nine different Wildcats have found the back of the net this season and seven have netted more than one. In net, Nikki Golding and Ally Yost have each started eight games this season and both have recorded three shutouts. Golding owns a 0.61 GAA, while Yost has a 1.00 GAA.
Following today's game the Terriers will return home for the regular-season finale with Binghamton at Nickerson Field on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 1:00 p.m. Prior to the game the team will honor its four seniors in a pre-game ceremony. |
