Men's Track Takes First in Shot Put at Terrier Invitational; Women Place Fourth in 55m Dash

BOSTON - The Boston University women's and men's track teams competed at the Terrier Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Track and Tennis Center, with 21 athletes placing in the top ten in their events. Sophomore Whitney Ford placed fourth in the 55m dash with a 7.20 mark, while sophomore Jan Bicanic took first in the men's shot put.

On Friday, the women's team had athletes place in the top ten in 10 events. Following Ford in the 55m dash, seniors Tahari James (7.32, 11), Erin Catarius (7.45, 16), Alyssa Fanucci (7.56, 22) and Edwina Clark (8.00) all placed. Freshman Amanda Howard (26.50, 25) and senior Megan LaBella (29.11, 84) both competed in the 200m run, while Howard (59.25, 8), freshman Laura Martin (1:00.99, 28) and junior Alexis Beaudet (1:01.65, 34) all finished the 400m. Junior Rebecca Marshburn (1:17.17, 9) and sophomores Casey Jordan (1:19.31, 17) and Andrea Tingue (1:23.15, 23) crossed in the 500m. Senior Molly James (5:19.96) placed 36th in the mile run, junior Katie Weider (2:13.67) earned sixth place in the 800m, and freshman Emma Reed finished seventh with a 2:59.52 mark in the 1000m.

 

 

Marshburn (8.63, 4), LaBella (9.49, 26) and Jordan (10.01, 36) competed for the Terriers in the 55m hurdles. BU's 4x400 team, consisting of Beaudet, Jordan, James and Marshburn, finished eighth with a 3:57.41 time. BU collected top ten finishes in the field events, with freshman Karly Neveu and LaBella both completing jumps of J1.57m in the high jump for 10th place, sophomores Mimi Maritz (3.20m, 6) and Fiona Romeri (J3.20m, 8) in the pole vault and James (5.92m, 2), Clark (J5.24m, 7) and Fanucci (5.11m, 9) in the long jump.

On Saturday, the men's team took their turn in competition, including Bicanic's first-place finish in the shot put with a 15.53m throw. Freshman Dan Withrow came in fifth at 14.76m, followed by senior Dan Martin (14.11, 7) and sophomores Logan Moore (12.66, 18) and Chase Carnahan (12.03, 25). In other field events, senior Greg Daggett placed 18th in the 55m hurdles with a 8.40 time, freshman Michael Zimmerman finished in 25th with a 8.74 mark. Sophomore Jordan Cumper completed a J3.95 pole vault to earn the 10th spot, while Dagget finished 13th in the long jump (6.06m).

Then men's track events were highlighted by a second-place finish by senior David Proctor, who ran a 4:01.57 mile. Freshmen Ken Haltom (4:24.50, 53) and James Weider (4:29.00, 56) also finished the mile run. Freshman Rich Haigh (6.69, 14) and junior David Barth (7.04, 55) both ran the 55m dash, also competing in the 200m (Haigh - 23.05, 44; Barth, 24.43, 83). Freshmen Joel Senick (48.35, 6) and Tyler Ellis (53.26, 82), sophomores Jason English (52.96, 80) and Chase Carnahan (53.03, 81) and junior Adam Churey (51.44, 56) all finished the 400m, while senior Chadd Steinhauser (1:04.67, 9), Zimmerman (1:07.64, 31) and junior Joseph Pike (1:09.19, 43) placed in the 500m. Senior Jake Laroe (2:27.91, 6) and sophomore Sean Gallagher (2:39.34, 36) competed in the 1000m, followed by sophomore Eric Ashe (8:27.04, 19) and senior Dan Sieczkiewicz (8:34.54, 29) in the 3000m run. The 4x400 team, comprised of Churey, Ellis and sophomores Jason English and Mark Mazzochette placed 19th with a 3:28.89 time.

The track team's next competition is the Beanpot Invitational, hosted by Harvard in Allston, Mass., on Feb. 2.
