Providence, RI - As part of the Brown University Athletic Department's 1st Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Week, and in conjunction with the ECAC Hockey League's "Pink at the Rink" effort, Brown's women's ice hockey team will wear pink jerseys in this weekend's home games against Quinnipiac and Princeton. These game-worn jerseys will then be auctioned online at www.ecachockeycoachesvscancer.com. Brown Athletics is holding several events from Feb. 9-16 to help support the fight against breast cancer. Proceeds from these events will be donated to the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation. "We're thrilled to participate in this program and raise awareness in the fight against cancer," said Women's Ice Hockey Coach Digit Murphy. "It makes an awesome statement that we back this fight." The 4 p.m. women's ice hockey game on Saturday, February 9, against Princeton has been designated "Meehan Mayhem". Team posters will be distributed, a post-game autograph session is planned, special $8 ticket packages will include two game tickets, two hot dogs, and two drinks, and many in-game activities will help raise awareness and money. To create a "pink out" atmosphere, custom pink t-shirts are being sold for $10 by members of the women's ice hockey team, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and by BrowNation. T-shirts will also be sold in the Brown Ticket Office, located in the Pizzitola Sports Center, and at all home basketball and ice hockey games through Feb. 16th. Coaching and gameday staffs for many other Brown teams will wear pink scarves, ties, ribbons, shirts, and shoelaces during their competitions throughout the week.
