Providence, RI - Brown junior goaltender Nicole Stock (Buffalo Grove, IL) was named Second Team All-ECAC Hockey at the league's annual banquet on Friday night. Despite having one of the heaviest workloads in the country, as she is currently third in the nation in saves but just 17th in minutes, Stock was eighth in save percentage among all Division I goaltenders. Named Second Team All-Ivy already, Stock shattered Brown's record for saves in a season, breaking the old mark set by Ali Brewer in her Kazmaier Award-winning season by 323 saves, becoming the first Brown goalie to pass 1,000 saves in a season with 1,004. She also broke Brown's records for saves in a game (66) and in a period (27), which had stood for 19 and 23 years, respectively, against Mercyhurst on Jan. 19. Stock averaged 34.3 saves on 37.1 shots per 60 minutes, which both rank third in the country. In comparison, ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Year Christina Kessler of Harvard saw 15.3 fewer shots per game while leading the nation in save percentage and goals-against average. Stock's final save percentage of .924 ranks eighth in the country, while her .923 conference save percentage was third among ECAC Hockey goaltenders. She made 30 or more saves in 20 of her 29 starts, 40 or more saves seven times, and 50 or more saves twice. Stock has started 38 consecutive games dating back to 1/20/07, the longest stretch at Brown since Brewer started 68 consecutive games from 3/7/98, to 3/25/00. Stock also spent the second-most time between the pipes among ECAC Hockey goaltenders by less than three minutes. 2008 ECAC HOCKEY ANNUAL AWARD WINNERS First Team Second Team Third Team All-Rookie Team |
