WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Stuart Lindgren (Richfield, Minn./Richfield) shot a 2-over-par 73 to lead Bucknell in its first competition of the 2008 spring season on Monday at the First Market Bank Intercollegiate at the River Course at Kingsmill Resort. The Bison posted a first-round 300 and sit in ninth place in a challenging 19-team field.

Keita Aoki (Tokyo, Japan/St. Mary's International School), who struggled in the fall, got off to a nice start this spring with a 3-over 74. Also for Bucknell, Andrew Cohen (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) shot 76, Ben Mattingly (Fishers, Ind./Park Tudor) shot 77, and Brian Bartow (Rye, N.Y./Rye Neck) opened with a 79.

A first-round 286 put Francis Marion University in the lead by four shots over Detroit Mercy. Gradner-Webb and James Madison are tied for third at 292. Bucknell is one stroke behind eighth-place St. Bonaventure and two ahead of both Towson and William & Mary. One other Patriot League team is in the field. Army is 14th after opening with a 305.

Detroit's Mark Sommerfield and Andy Whalen of St. Bonaventure are tied for the individual lead after firing matching 68s on Monday. Lindgren, Bucknell's top scorer, is tied for 16th.

The River Course at Kingsmill is the former home of the PGA Tour's Michelob Open, and it currently plays host to the LPGA's "Fifth Major," the Michelob ULTRA Open.

The second and final round begins Tuesday morning.
