Bucknell Men's Tennis Falls In Season Opener To Duquesne, 6-1

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's tennis team moved to 0-1 on the year, following a 6-1 loss to Duquesne, now 3-0 this season, at the West Branch Tennis Club on Saturday afternoon.

In singles, senior Ira Reibeisen (Armonk, N.Y./Rye Country Day-Upper School) picked up a win for the Bison at the No. 1 position, defeating Alext Mast of Duquesne, 7-5, 6-1. At the No. 2 position, junior Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) fell to Michael Ortega, 4-6, 6-4, 10-6, while at No. 3, sophomore Zach Hascoe (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick) was defeated by Zach Skorupka, 6-3, 7-5. At the No. 4 position, Jeremy McClelland topped junior Jonathan Brenner (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade), 6-3, 6-2, and at No. 5, Mark Maciuch went 6-0, 6-1 over freshman Mark Malloy (Bronxville, N.Y./Hackley School). To round out singles play, freshman Anton Kovic (Montreal, Quebec/Milton Academy (Mass.)) fell to Mikhael Rasner (4-6, 7-6, 11-9, 10-2).

Hascoe and Malloy picked up a win for the Bison at No. 3 doubles against McClelland and Steve Herchko of Duquesne, 8-6. At No. 1 doubles, Brenner and Sandburg fell to Ortega and Rasner, 8-5, and at No. 2 doubles, Reibeisen and Kovic were defeated by Mast and Maciuch, 8-5.

The Bison will return to action on Feb. 8, taking on Cornell in Ithaca, N.Y., at 7 p.m.
