Bucknell Men's Tennis Travels To Villanova On Wednesday, Colgate On Saturday

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's tennis team is prepared for a two-match week on the road, taking on Villanova on Wednesday at 2 p.m. and Colgate on Saturday at 12 p.m. Bucknell's match against Villanova was originally scheduled for March 19, but was postponed due to adverse weather conditions. Most recently, Bucknell dropped a close 4-3 match against UMBC on March 28, and fell, 4-1, to Navy in its Patriot League opener, moving the Bison to 7-5 overall and 0-1 in league play.

Bucknell Men's Tennis Notebook

Against UMBC, March 29 -
- The Bison fell to UMBC by a score of 4-3, snapping a five-match winning streak to move to 7-4 on the season, while the Retrievers moved to 8-4 in 2008.
- Bucknell got off to an early lead, taking the doubles point after picking up wins at both the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Senior Ira Reibeisen (Armonk, N.Y./Rye Country Day-Upper School) and junior Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) won their eighth match of the season against David Jackson and Irfan Shamasdin, 8-6, at the No. 1 spot. Senior Ben Young (New Canaan, Conn,/New Canaan) and freshman Mark Malloy (Bronxville, N.Y./Hackley School) also picked up their eighth win of the season going 8-6 over Chris Meyer and Logan Bricker at the No. 3 spot.
- In singles play, Reibeisen improved to 6-2 at the No. 1 position, defeating Meyer, 6-3, 6-3. Sandburg also won his singles match, topping Savage-Pollock, 6-1, 6-4, at the No. 2 spot. Sandburg brought his record to 7-5 on the season and 4-4 at No. 2.

Against Navy, March 30 -
- Bucknell opened Patriot League play with a 4-1 loss against Navy. The Bison moved to 7-5 on the season and 0-1 in the Patriot League, while the Midshipmen moved to 15-7 and 3-0 in league competition.
- At the No. 3 singles position, sophomore Zach Hascoe (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick) picked up the lone win for the Bison. He defeated Hill, 6-2, 5-7, 6-3, to move him to 6-5 (4-5 at No. 3) this season.

Team Leaders -
- After the match against the Midshipmen, Malloy continues to lead the Bison in doubles wins this season, with nine. Young, Reibeisen and Sandburg follow, each with eight doubles wins. In singles, Sandburg, junior Jonathan Brenner (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade), freshman Anton Kovic (Montreal, Quebec/Milton Academy (Mass.)) and Malloy are tied for a team-high of seven wins.
- Reibeisen continues to set Bucknell's all-time combined victories record, now with 138 wins, while Sandburg now tallies 109 career victories, moving into second all-time. Reibeisen owns Bucknell's all-time singles victories record with 73 wins and Sandburg sits at No. 8 with 44 wins. Reibeisen and Sandburg remain tied for the all-time doubles victories record, now with 65. Brenner follows at No. 3 for career doubles wins, with 55.

On the Villanova Wildcats -
- As of March 26, Villanova posted a season record of 1-9, with its lone win coming against Quinnipiac.
- In a series that began in 1931, Bucknell has picked up nine wins and suffered two losses to the Wildcats. Last time Bucknell faced Villanova, on April 11, 2006, the Bison came away with a 5-2 win.

On the Colgate Raiders -
- Colgate is 5-8 on the season and 1-1 in league play; the Raiders defeated Lehigh and lost their first Patriot League match of the season against Navy.
- Last season against Colgate, the Bison fell, 5-2, on April 8. In a series that began in 1942, Bucknell has picked up nine wins and suffered 47 losses to Colgate.

Bison Honors in 2007-08 -
- On Jan. 31, Bucknell men's tennis was picked third in the Patriot League Preseason Poll with 48 points. Navy led the way in first with 70 points and 10 first-place votes and Army followed in second with 64 points and four first-place votes. Rounding out the list was fourth-place Colgate (44 points), fifth-place Lehigh (31 points), sixth-place Lafayette (25 points) and seventh-place Holy Cross (12 points).
- On Nov. 14, Reibeisen was named Patriot League Player of the Month and on Oct. 3, he received an honorable mention for Player of the Month.

Looking Ahead -
- After this week's matches, Bucknell will continue play on the road against Penn State on April 9, Lehigh on April 10, Army on April 12, and Lafayette on April 13. Bucknell's final home match of the season will be against Delaware on April 22. The Orange and Blue will then travel to Bloomsburg on April 23, for a final match before the Patriot League tournament, scheduled for April 25-27, in Hamilton, N.Y.
